I’m currently working on the next Wayfarers book, but since it’s going to be a while until that hits shelves (early 2021, provided I write words on time), here’s a little something to tide you over: A brand new short story! It’s called “A Good Heretic,” and it’s part of the Infinite Stars: Dark Frontiers space opera anthology. The story’s about Mas, the Sianat Solitary we briefly meet in The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. It’s the first time I’ve visited the Sianat homeworld and delved into the ritual of Pairing, so if you’re curious about this secretive species and their viral culture (oh ho, a pun!), I think you’ll dig this. You might want to bundle up, though. There’s a reason Sianats have fur.
Infinite Stars: Dark Frontiers is available now in the US, and will be out on November 26 in the UK.
Also, if you’ll allow me to abruptly shift universes: the first round of the Goodreads Choice Awards is open, and To Be Taught, If Fortunate is up for Best Science Fiction! While I certainly wouldn’t say no to anybody who wants to give the crew of the Merian your vote, I’m sharing the list with friends and other very talented authors. It’s been an incredible year for sci-fi, and honestly, the best thing you could do is check out all of these folks and give a click to the one who took your brain on the coolest trip.
